Whether you love him or hate him, you can’t ignore him. Skrillex has become so famous that even his half-shaved hairstyle has its own Twitter account. This month, he’s making his way to Stage AE with Big Gigantic and Valentino Khan on October 21st. Skrillex, real name Sonny Moore, started off in the post-hardcore band From First to Last as their frontman, but left in 2007 due to his preference to leave vocals behind and start his own solo career. At first, he released demos via Myspace. Then, he played on the Team Sleep Tour with a full band where he gave out 30 tour exclusive demo albums per show packaged in baby blue envelopes with unique drawings.
In 2008, Moore adopted the name Skrillex after DJing under the alias at clubs in the Los Angeles area. The name doesn’t mean anything particular-his friends just called him that and it stuck. In 2010, Moore released his official debut EP, My Name is Skrillex.
Since the start of his solo career, Skrillex has made hits crossing over multiple genres. In his music, he has remixed popular songs like Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and The Black Eyed Peas “Rock That Body,” teamed up with big acts like Fat Man Scoop, Ellie Goulding, Damian Marley, The Doors, and A$AP Rocky, and made multiple Billboard 100 and Grammy award-winning tracks like “Bangarang” and “Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites.”
Skrillex’s latest album, Recess, continues to defy categories. On the album, Skrillex has touches of K-pop, dancehall, R&B, and Middle Eastern influences. Hard-core fans will notice that this album takes a more smooth and cool turn than his earlier hard-hitting works although his normal style shows up.
