RJD2 Links Up W/Chrome Sparks & Local Favorites @ Mr. Smalls — Ticket Giveaway
Multidimensional artist Ramble Jon Krohn has had a career in music for nearly two decades, with a long list of accomplishments spanning across the map. It started in ‘93, when the Ohio native picked up a pair of turntables from a high school buddy. He dubbed himself RJD2 – the nickname he was referred to by a friend in his raps – and from there, he began his journey as a performer.
The now Philly-based artist began DJing for hip hop group MHz, eventually signing to Bobbito Garcia’s Fondle ‘Em label, and releasing his self-proclaimed mix CD, “Your Face Or Your Kneecaps.” His solo debut album, “Deadringer,” soon followed suit. RJD2 has since served as both a catalyst and counterpart in multiple collaborations and projects, including his DJ moniker, Soul Position, during his collab with Columbus rapper, Blueprint; multiple album releases on several labels, including his own record label, RJ’s Electrical Connections; extensively touring throughout his career; and even composing theme music for popular TV series, “Mad Men.”
On Friday, February 20, RJD2 performs at Mr. Smalls Theatre along with supporting acts from several local heavy hitters. Joining him will be Future Classic experimental artist (and former PGH resident), Chrome Sparks (DJ set); two staples within Pittsburgh’s music wave, James Gyre and Mr. Owl (B2B); and additional local favorite producer/DJ, Headphone Activist.
RJD2 and the crew hit Mr. Smalls at 8PM and $20 presale tickets are available online. In addition, NYO is giving away two free tickets to the show! Enter below for a chance to score them for you and a friend.
