The Tobacco Giveaway
Characteristically masked electronic musician Thomas Fec, better known by his stage name Tobacco, gives off an air of mystery that rivals his unique, genre-evading music, which he says he’d like to call “meatstep.” SPIN magazine has called his work a “junkyard takedown of Daft Punk’s beloved, pristine electro.” No matter what you want to call it, we’re definitely into his synth-heavy tracks.
The Pittsburgh native and Hampton High School graduate rarely does interviews, but he did a popular AMA on Reddit about a month ago to make up for it. He’s also the front man of Black Moth Super Rainbow. Fec uses analog synthesizers and tape machines to create an electro-rock sound, whether it’s working as a solo artist or collaborating with other music minds. You’ll be able to experience his psychedelic sounds during his performance with The Stargazer Lilies and Zackey Force Punk, July 19 at Mr. Smalls Theatre.
Tobacco released his first solo album, Fucked Up Friends, in 2008. Years prior, he was releasing music with Black Moth Super Rainbow before focusing on his own work. Since his first solo release, he released sophomore album Maniac Meat, and has numerous collaboration and production credits. His third studio album Ultima II Massage, was released this year. He has said, “I reluctantly take part in the music world, but am just out to do what I do because I love entertaining myself with sound more than anything.” With his passion for his music in mind, make sure not to miss him here in his hometown. Doors open at 7PM and the show starts at 8PM. You can purchase tickets for $15 here or can try to win a pair of tickets below.
