The Ray LaMontagne Giveaway
Ray LaMontagne makes music now, but that hasn’t always been the case. He’s lived all over the country and has entertained quite a bit of hobbies, including drawing and Dungeons and Dragons. This eclectic life changed when he heard Stephen Stills’ album Manassas, which inspired him to leave his job and become a singer-songwriter. He released his first album, Trouble, ten years ago, which featured a performance by his beloved Stills’ daughter, Jennifer Stills.
Even if you haven’t heard of Ray LaMontagne, you’ve probably heard his music. His songs have been featured in movies like, She’s the Man, The Boys Are Back, 27 Dresses, and the TV shows Rescue Me, and House. Ray LaMontagne has been compared to artists like Otis Redding and Van Morrison and says his unique sound comes from singing from his gut rather than his nose–which certainly seems to be working for him. His music is relaxing, rich with soul, and can be appreciated by people of all walks of life. He received two Grammy nominations in 2010 and won one for the Best Contemporary Folk Album.
He lives in Massachusetts with his wife, a poet, and their children. He has a quiet, private life, and allows his listeners to get to know him from his music rather than extensive interviews. His most recent album, Supernova, was released in April 2014, and displays a combination of experimentation that showcase his talent and signature sound. Now, he’s left his New England hideaway to go on the road. He’ll be in Pittsburgh at Stage AE on June 6. Tickets are available here, or you can enter our giveaway below!
