Celebrate the holiday season with an astronomy-themed performance of multicultural music by local jazz superstar Phat Man Dee with her band directed by Miguel Sague III, of Guaracha, in the Buhl Digital Planetarium at the Carnegie Science Center. This event is the official release of Phat Man Dee’s latest album, Merry ChristmaChannaKwanzzaa Vol 1.1. Phat Man Dee was voted #2 Best Local Jazz Act in the Pittsburgh City Paper Readers’ Poll of 2010. She’s a celebrated singer with Neverwas Haul, Boiler Bar, Cyclecide, Madagascar Institute & Lifesize Mousetrap. The music she makes includes original songs about robots, ghosts, other artists, and their works! Whether she’s singing in a bathtub or riding a Jet Fuel Ponies, this dynamic singer is sure to enchant.

Her music is an strange yet lovely blend of original and classic jazz. Accompanied by her Afro Cuban conga player Miguel Sague III and guitarist Carlos Peña, she sings and duets her compositions and standards in English, Spanish, French and sometimes German and Hebrew. Her music was formed as a classical cellist who sung in synagogue and was then later twisted by her years in punk rock circuses as a traveling half man/half woman glass eating belly dancing beauty.

Hear classic tunes like “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “Stardust,” against stunning visuals that take you on a stellar journey through the universe. Be among the first to hear Mandee’s newest hit single, “Picksburgh Xmas” from her upcoming holiday album. This one-of-a-kind collaboration blends jazz and science for an unforgettable extravaganza for adults and kids alike! See one show, or stay for both! More details on the event can be found here.
