The Madagascar Giveaway
Quantum Theatre is known for transforming non-theater venues into immersive settings for their unique plays. Whether it’s the Andy Warhol Museum or an abandoned bank, each venue becomes a character within the story. As an experimental theatre, they always push boundaries to transform the viewer and open their minds. Their next performance is no exception.
The Quantum Theater finally returns downtown now through February 16 for its newest play, Madagascar. Written in 2004 by J.T. Rogers,Madagascar is a memory play that pieces together the stories of three individuals occupying the same hotel room at different points in history. “Madagascar is the story of a mysterious disappearance that changes these lives forever.” Keeping with the theme of non-traditional locations, Quantum Theater has transformed The Carlyle downtown to fit the play’s setting. The marble-filled Union National Bank lobby captures both the antiquity and elegance of the hotel room overlooking the Spanish steps in contemporary Rome. The fact that the building once hosted a bank is fitting to the plot, as it delves into economic theory.
Performances will run Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm. Be sure to get your butt in the seat on time, as there is no late seating.
