Celebrate Pittsburgh’s Culture Scene @ McKees Rocks FEASTival
As a celebration of Pittsburgh’s vibrant cultural scene, the McKees Rocks Community Development Corporation (CDC) will host the third annual FEASTival on August 1. The daylong community gathering will feature several local artists, musicians and food trucks from the Pittsburgh area. Since its inception in 2013, FEASTival began as a movement to promote community engagement and showcase the development of the downtown business district. Proceeds from the event assist with the McKees Rocks downtown development efforts, while bringing more events to the downtown area.
Manager of Operations for the CDC Caitlin Hazelton shares their vision about FEASTival and what they hope to accomplish as a community: “FEASTival aims to celebrate our vision of a revitalized, mixed-use downtown and bring awareness to the steps we need to get there. In addition to great mobile food, live music, and an artisan marketplace, we are also showcasing local artists and art activities via partnerships with Assemble and Paint Monkey. We like to say that guests can ‘satisfy their senses’ at FEASTival.”
This year’s FEASTival will feature a variety of both local and national musical acts, including headliner Robert Randolph and the Family Band, a blues, rock, soul, and American funk band. The New Jersey natives recently released their latest album, “Lickety Split,” a work that showcases their newfound inspiration to continue developing upon their unique sound, as well as the obvious musical chemistry between members.
Other performing artists include global dancehall party throwers and DJs, Pandemic; funky Trombone powerhouse band, Big Sam’s Funky Nation; celebrated afrobeat music group; AFROHEAT; talented PGH musician collective, The Commonheart; and psychedelic funk rockers, The Clock Reads.
