Summer days are made for hanging out in the sun and enjoying the breeze with a sweet drink in hand. Established in 2012, National Rum Day hopes to educate and further promote rum. The goal is to highlight rum’s cool history and bring awareness to its diversity. RumUnited hosts events all over the country that pair tastings and educational experiences while highlighting differences of various brands. RumBQue, the kick off event for Rum Day Pittsburgh, has got you covered. This year RumUnited and Pittsburgh Cocktail Week team up for this event on Saturday, June 21st from 5-9PM at Bayardstown Social Club. The venue borrows its name from the legendary Bayardstown Boys. It’s pretty snazzy if you haven’t had a chance to check it out.
With the price of admission, this year RumBQue will feature a hog roast by North Woods Ranch in Warrendale, PA. This local, humanely and sustainably-raised Berkshire pork will be served as Cochiaita Pibil tacos with organic toppings. No worries–if you’re a veggie and you want to partake in the rum festivities, there will be a vegetarian option available too.
More food and dessert will be provided by Marty’s Market and the Pittsburgh Pie Guy. Marty’s Market opened in July 2012 to connect Pittsburghers regional farmers who are committed to growing high-quality food. The Pittsburgh Pie Guy is a pop-up bakery working out of a rental kitchen in Friendship who prides himself in only using the freshest seasonal local produce and ingredients available to make the pies all from scratch.
Guests can also enjoy the concoctions made by Pittsburgh’s finest rum connoisseurs who enter the 1st Annual Rum Punch Challenge, as well as complimentary rum punches all evening long. The winner of the challenge receives the envy of their peers and bragging rights until next year.
Presale tickets for the event are available for $30.00 online until noon the day of the event. Tickets purchased at the door will be $40.00.
