Piebird Bakery Kickstarter Campaign
For three years now, Piebird has been crafting their tasty pastries and signature desserts right here in the ‘Burgh. Since their inception in 2011, Piebird provided catering services at multiple events throughout the city; now, creator Annalee DePaoli plans to open a storefront bakery in Lawrenceville this January.
In order to make her plans a reality, DePaoli recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to assist in the funding for commercial pastry kitchen equipment, including ovens, mixers, refrigerators and other essentials. Contributors can donate anything from $5 to $5,000 to help Piebird reach their goal of $10,000 before Dec. 14.
“Some of the challenges any food-related businesses face in this area are permitting, inspection, and the red tape associated with building something new,” DePaoli stated on the Piebird Kickstarter page. “We’ve done our best to surmount these obstacles by doing our due diligence, and as much leg work as we can upfront.”
Piebird employees have gotten pretty creative with their donation rewards — donating $50 can even get you a pair of Piebird undies. Other rewards range from their legendary salted caramel sauce for those who donate over $25, to a private catering and dessert demo for up to 30 people for those who donate over $5,000.
DePaoli has worked in the service industry for most of her adult life. Before Piebird was launched, DePaoli worked in the kitchens of Point Brugge, E2, and as sous chef in the Frick Cafe at Frick Art and Historical Center. She also assisted in establishing the bakery at Marty’s Market.
