Don’t wait to dine another day; dine for a whole week on the tastiest sandwiches in the ‘Burgh at this summer’s fourth annual Northside Sandwich Week, happening from June 18-24.

The Northside Leadership ConferenceHighmark and Beano’s Condiments have partnered to kick off the week-long extravaganza with the Northside Sandwich Sampler party on June 18 at Grand Hall at the Priory. Featuring 12 North Side restaurants and their sandwich contenders, the Sandwich Sampler gives attendees the opportunity to vote for their favorite sandwich joint, grab samples from each restaurant, and enjoy live performances from Shelf Life String Band and ROX Performance Academy. The opening party takes place on Thursday, June 18 from 6-9PM, and tickets are available now.

Last year’s winners, Modern Café (the reigning “Sandwich King” since 2013) and Chateau Café & Cakery (both the runner-up and the overall favorite sandwich joint) return to the competition this year with their Greek Cheesesteak and the Oddjob, respectively. Other participating restaurants and sandwiches include new Troy Hill restaurant Scratch Food and Beverage (Scratch Reuben), James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy (The Deutschtown Italian Sandwich), Penn Brewery (the Reubenesque), Nana’s New York Hot Dog Shop (The Northside Chili Dog), Legends of the North Shore (Deutschtown Double Down), North Shore Cafe (Grilled Chicken Pesto Panini), Max’s Allegheny Tavern (Potato Pancake Reuben), Peppi’s (The Great Garbanzo),  Brighton Cafe (Great Chicken Salad) and Atria’s PNC Park (Signature Pork Belly).

Determining the winner and runner-up of the “Sandwich King” title will be this year’s local celebrity judges, Kevin Watson, the executive Chef at Savoy restaurant in the Strip District, Randy Gilson, the artist behind Randyland on Arch Street, and Hal B. Klein, Pittsburgh Magazine food and drink writer.

General admission tickets for Northside Sandwich Sampler are $35 and also include two Penn Brewery beers or pop, dessert and live entertainment. Starting this year, attendees can also purchase VIP tickets for $50. VIP perks get you everything included with a general admission ticket, as well as reserved seating and parking, an extra beer ticket, and a visit from the celebrity judges.

Northside Sandwiches 4Want to burn off the sandwiches as you eat them? Grab your bike and your ticket for the all new Le Tour de Sandwich on June 20. For $20, attendees will take a guided bike tour which showcases the locations of this year’s participating restaurants. The tour starts at Chateau Cafe & Cakery, and will make stops at four previous winners’ locations for samples. Tickets for Le Tour de Sandwich also include a route map, a t-shirt and water. Every Northside Sandwich Sampler and Le Tour de Sandwich attendee will also receive a coupon book featuring deals for this year’s competitors.

A portion of the proceeds from the Northside Sandwich Sampler and Le Tour de Sandwich will also benefit ROX Performance Academy.
