Mattress Factory2016 Urban Garden Party: Light Up the Night

This Friday, hit up one of the biggest parties of the summer, Mattress Factory’s signature fundraiser – Urban Garden Party: Light Up the Night. The event will be lighting up with live entertainment, food from Pittsburgh’s top restaurants, and an open bar. Get a VIP pass for exclusive perks and a pregame starting at 6, or head over at 7:30 for general admission. All proceeds go towards the Mattress Factory’s art programs, exhibits, and education outreach.

Next 3 Days is throwing a party on the Hilltop this weekend to showcase Mt. Washington and Allentown. Tickets include entry, food tasting, drink tickets, and live entertainment feat. Beauty Slap, R.A.D., DJ Climax, Kanti Kasa, Gone South, Lyn Woods, and Joe the Mailman. As part of the N3D initiative to celebrate emerging neighborhoods in the 412, events will also be held on Saturday and Sunday highlighting life on the Hilltop.

Come out for the premiere of hip-hop artist Jasiri X’s original score for the 1925 silent film, “Body and Soul,” directed by Oscar Micheaux and starring Paul Robeson. Jasiri X burst onto the hip-hop scene by combining his passions for music and community activism. He is a six time Pittsburgh Hip-Hop Award winner, and the first hip-hop artist to receive the August Wilson Center for African American Culture Fellowship. Doors open at 7PM, with an introduction by early Black Cinema historian Joseph Kennedy IV at 8PM.

South Side Art Crawl

The South Side Art Crawl is back, featuring 250+ visual artists, 45+ venues, and 30+ bands. Local artists and musicians will span East Carson Street, unifying the neighborhood with Pittsburgh’s vibrant culture. In additions to art exhibitions, there will be live music, body painting, and a craft beer tasting event.

New York’s the Karma Kids and Big Breakfast are kicking off their tour this weekend and invading Pittsburgh with support from Jack Wilson, Lazyblackman, Devin West and Vocab Slick. The progressive hip-hop collective, The Karma Kids, will be giving electric performances–both as a group and individually–and Big Breakfast will be rapping tracks from his newly released album.
