Unlisted Second Steel A unique performance art concept is rolling to town and will explore the usage of urban spaces. Unlisted is an international organization that produces site-specific performances through collaborations between locals and new comers, “(per)forming a lens through which to (re)view cities.” The project combines research, art, and the urban environment.  Their mission is to produce performances that investigate urban spaces and are tailored to the location. They function both as a performance series and an ongoing “Performance as Research” project with the hypothesis that “a small change in awareness or perception can create a ripple effect, nudging the aesthetic and emotional life of a city in a new direction.” The organization invites many new and emerging artists from the host city to partake in the performance. Unlisted is slated to come to Pittsburgh for a September performance, Second Steel.

For their Pittsburgh installment, Unlisted asks:
“What does ‘Revitalization’ mean?”
“How do we know when an area has been ‘Revitalized’?”
“What role can the arts and cross-sector partnerships play in exploring ‘Revitalization’?”

Pittsburgh has positioned itself as the perfect place to explore how the arts can revitalize a city and is something for which we have received international acclaim. Seeing a mash up of locals and new comers explore the subject in such a novel fashion certainly piques our interest.

If you’re curious as to where their Pittsburgh performance is taking place, and would like to support their efforts, be sure to attend the Unlisted: Second Steel Space Unveiling and Fundraiser, at Wigle Whiskey on Monday July 8th from 6-9pm.
