In its first year, the Holiday Shop & Rock on Walnut Street serves as the official Light Up Night for the district, and will feature shopping deals, a fashion show, and live music. The event comes to us from Think Shadyside, a community organization focused on making Shadyside a great place to “shop, eat, live, visit and work,” and the same group that brings us the Jam on Walnut events.  While Jam on Walnut serves as a benefit for Cystic Fibrosis, Shop & Rock will benefit the East End Cooperative Ministry, which is focused on serving those in need in Pittsburgh’s East End since 1970.

All of the festivities kick off this Friday, November 30th at 2pm.  You can purchase a wristband at the parklet by American Apparel to use as a shop and dine pass, giving you special deals at participating establishments. Some of the special offers include $25 off a $100 purchase at Footloose, a free candle with a $125 purchase at Denham Vitale, or get $20 in free gift cards with every $100 gift card purchase at Moda. There over 30 deals in all with your wristband, including yummy treats like champagne at Dina Ellen and apple cider at Eureka! Chocolates & Gifts. Those of you over 21 will pay $3 for your wristband so you can partake in some adult beverage specials during the live music.  There are also under 21 or designated driver wristbands available for $1 if hot chocolate and apple cider are more your steez.

The party in the street really begins at 7PM as local darlings Donora take the stage. The pop indie trio features the Hanner siblings Casey and Jake, joined by another Jake (Churton) on bass. Here’s a little taste:

After Donora, the Holiday Fashion Show begins at 8PM. It will feature some cold weather fashions and gift ideas from True Runner, e.b. Pepper, Cheeks, Roberta Weissburg Leathers, and Dina Ellen. Then Radio Tokyo takes the stage at 8:30PM to entertain you with their standard rock cover songs. Ranging from Third Eye Blind and The Killers to some 80s classics, Radio Tokyo plays an energizing set of poppy rock that will keep you warm on this winter night.

Be sure to look for the NakYouOut table in the parklet from 3-8PM, where you can sign up for our weekly eblast, if you haven’t already (what are you waiting for?!?), and purchase the ultimate holiday gift, a pack of City Dining Cards for only $20. If you’ve missed all the hype thus far, City Dining Cards give you 50 $10 off discount cards to locally-owned restaurants around the city. $500 in savings for only $20, is a great deal right? Plus, when you purchase from us directly, you’ll have the product in hand and skip the shipping fees you’ll get when ordering online. The deck features some local Shadyside favorites including The Elbow Room, Bites and Brews, Eden, Buffalo Blues, Brasserie 33, 1947 Tavern, and Harris Grill. We’ll take cash or plastic for your purchase. See you there!
