Tomorrow, April 21 is national Record Store Day and we’re lucky enough to have a wealth of independent stores to choose from here in Pittsburgh. Our record shop scene is strong, with each store doing something special to commemorate the day. There are also various local releases to note, and a few Saturday night haps to pay tribute to the day. Peep your options below.
Eide’s Entertainment: They made a Facebook page for their sale. But if you’re too lazy to click, it says: “We will have a large selection of exclusive vinyl pieces, as well as the Electronic Saviors:Industrial Music To Cure Cancer Vol 2 Premium Editions. Record Store Day items are not subject to the anniversary sale and are in very limited quantities so show up early. Limit one of each per customer. There will also be a special in store DJ set by DJ Hiem (Jim Semonik) who will be spinning cuts from the ES2 comp from 12pm – 2pm.”
720 Music, Clothing and Cafe: Well, well well. They made a page too, but their description is much longer, so we’ll summarize. Hop on over here to see full deets. “Slide through the shop between 11am-9pm for non-stop top choice selections by 12 of the city’s top selectors, running the musical genre gamut from Soul, to Hip-Hop, to Contemporary House, and back. Several exclusive in-house MIX CD’s will be released via a small run in the shop coupled with equally as exclusive RSD titles put out by indy and major labels alike. Specials throughout the store all day (aside for RSD product) +free refreshments and nosh while supplies last.” The after party pops off at Shadow Lounge for Classic Material, featuring an all-vinyl set by deejays Selecta and SMI.
Mind Cure Records: “We will have the Lee Hazlewood, both Numero releases, the Pussy Galore 7in and the 7in from locals Neighbours. We will be putting out 1,500+ used LPs for your browsing pleasure so make sure you get down here and check them out!”
Jerry’s Records: They’re having a huge Sidewalk SALE w/ $1 LP’s, 45’s, CD’s, DVD’s, magazines, etc! They’ll also be doing their usual shenanigans – “giving away another 8,000 or so records.”
The City Paper did a lovely lil’ write-up on the day. Peep it here.
And don’t forget about our recent interviewees, Neighbours’ record release party at Gooskis!
