Day of GivingThe Pittsburgh Foundation is hosting its 5th annual Day of Giving on Thursday, October 3rd. You’ll have 24 hours, from 12AM to 11:59PM, to give to the non-profit organization of your choice. You can be as generous as you’d like with no cap on donations, but there is a $25 minimum. The Pittsburgh Foundation and several other charitable funds are putting up match pools for the first $1000 donated per organization, though you’re welcome to go above that. The pool for Allegheny County is $750,000. A link will appear at midnight on October 3rd on PittsburghGives.org where you can donate, but keep in mind, you can only pay using a credit card (Visa or Mastercard). A full list of eligible non-profits is available on the site as well.

The organizations you can donate to are diverse. Action for Animals, Three Rivers Youth, ToonSeum, WYEP, Kelly Strayhorn Theater and the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force are just some of the 650+ diverse options. Take, for example, the The Sprout Fund, which offers financial awards for community projects and creates learning programs for children, teens and young adults. It also has a huge hand in public art and was named, “Top 50 Influences on the Arts” in the last decade by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  If you want to stretch your legs instead of simply donating online you can visit Sprout’s giving locations (see list below) and get a free gift for your generosity!

7-10AM:  Sprouts Office at 5423 Penn Avenue – Free coffee and a donut

11AM-1PM: Conflict Kitchen in Schenely Plaza – Free dessert from Conflict Kitchen

2-4PM: ToonSeum’s Comic Courtyard Downtown – Free popcorn from The Pittsburgh Popcorn Company (If you also donate to the ToonSeum you’ll get free admission!)

4-6PM: “A Piece of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” mural in Southside – Free drink at Double Wide Grill

Also, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, and Pittsburgh Opera will all have booths up at the Market Square Farmer’s Market from 10AM-2PM and the Opera will perform at noon. The final event of the day will be at Draai Laag Brewing Company where the non-profit group New Sun Rising will be available to talk about some of their new projects.

Don’t forget to donate and check how the non-profits are doing all day long!
