We all know the saying “Out with the old, in with the new.” We are constantly trying to find the next big thing to satisfy our lives and assume that newer equals better. Being the green, livable city we are, Pittsburgh has decided to turn that motto on its head and bring in the old to show us that newer is not always the way to go. These vintage pieces have withstood the test of time and are the perfect sustainable piece to add to your green lifestyle. The History Center has partnered with the Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer to host their second annual Vintage Pittsburgh event, where thirty local vendors bring in goods to celebrate the history of the city and help you find a ‘new to you’ accessory or art piece.
The vendors will be selling vintage clothing and accessories, collectibles, toys, housewares, furniture, artwork, books, and home decor. Participants include Daffodil Vintage, bringing in some fantastic vintage clothing, East End Book Exchange, Retro on 8th, with their funky furniture, DoNotDestroy, bringing some blast from the past toys and collectibles, and Vintage by Kristy, with shoes, clothes, and accessories. On top of the shopping, there will be live music performances and DJ’s spinning beats during all hours of the event with DJs on the fifth floor and live music on the first floor. Be sure to catch performances by Jody Perigo and Dan Baker as well as DJs Jay Malls, Matthew Buchholz, The Garment District/Bad Seed, and Michael Lutz. Once you’re done snagging every vintage piece you can, wander around any or all of the six floors of exhibits the History Center has to offer.
To make this event even more enjoyable, become a VIP by purchasing $15 tickets to attend the event preview from 9-10AM. Some other VIP perks include being the first to view vendors’ collections and also first dibs on snagging these one of a kind pieces, one drink ticket, and a gift bag. On top of all that, VIPs get all of the fun of a general admission ticket such as the musical guests, a cash bar selling cocktails from 10AM-12PM, and admission to the Heinz History Center.
Vintage Pittsburgh will be happening this Saturday, April 12th at the Heinz History Center in the Strip District. Doors open at 10AM for general admission and 9AM for the VIP Preview. General Admission tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students or youth, and History Center members and children under the age of 5 are free. All general admission tickets are available for purchase at the doors, but VIP tickets must be bought ahead of time online.
