Valentine's Day and a Giveaway
Love it or hate it, we all have to deal with Valentine’s Day in some fashion. Whether it’s making a conscious effort to ignore the holiday altogether or embracing it and feeling the love, V-day isn’t going anywhere. We’re here to help you find a way to celebrate or protest the holiday in a way that suits your personality. If you’re looking to do the whole date thing, look elsewhere. Here’s to a Valentine’s day off the beaten path! If you make it to the end, we might have somethin’ special for ya.
Start your day off with a brunch at Square Cafe in Regent Square. Titled “Let Us Eat”, the restaurant will be donating 25 of the day’s proceeds to Grow Pittsburgh. Specials include red velvet pancakes (MEGA NOM!), asparagus and ham crepes and shrimp/sausage creole benedict.
Once you’re fed, you might need a nap. This might also be a good opportunity for afternoon delight. Afterwards, head downtown to support One Billion Rising Pittsburgh for a high-energy demonstration combating gender-based violence. This event takes place from noon-2PM in Market Square. After doing your part to make the world a better place (instead of buying in to the consumption-focused nature of Valentine’s Day) reward yourself by heading to the South Side for a beer or ten. Double Wide Grill is having a pretty awesome and unique event, combining zombies with your dinner – the ultimate antithesis of love. After dinner they’ll be hosting a meet and eat from 6-close featuring a Best Zombie Contest at 11PM, zombie lounge bloody drink specials and scary movies on the projector all night long.
If zombies aren’t your thing, consider entering the Birmingham Bridge Tavern‘s first annual wing eating contest, which kicks off at 7:30PM with a series of challenges leading up to the main event. Contests include a 7-minute wing eating contest, couples challenge and the main event – how many wings can you eat in 30 minutes!? Think about how sexy your breath will be after this contest and how many babes you’ll have lined up wanting to taste that dragon breath after you win it all!
If you’re in more of a party mood Thursday, fear not. If you’re in the mood to hate on an ex, even better! Olive or Twist is hosting a “Red is Dead” anti-Valentine’s Day party and you can get in for free by bringing a picture of your ex to shred at the door. If your track record is full of amicable break-ups, admission is only $5 and there will be a DJ, drink specials, a 50/50 raffle and other contests.
Valentine’s Day also falls on the same night as Lazercrunk this year, so they’re bringing back one of their favorite headliners, Distal, to throw a V-Day banger that should put everyone in the mood for hazy hookups and connections only the Brillobox can foster. There will also be lots of grinding at this one fosho. As a token of our love for you, our loyal readers, you can enter for a chance to win tickets below.
