Night Moves at Shadow Lounge
These hipstered-out mofos are none other than Night Moves, who, according to Spin are “cosmically expansive and yet twangily intimate” – whatever the hell that means. We’d like to think if you attend their show at Shadow Lounge tomorrow that you’ll be on to some next level music, but upon first listen we’re more keen to say they’re composed of many familiarities. Package their abundance of hair with hazy watercolor nature imagery to frame their aesthetic and you’ve got yourself a band that speaks to many folk, both young and old. Their sound alone is a nod to something that could very well have been released in the seventies, but they’ve managed to make it their own.
Combining Americana, glam rock, synths and harmonica might not seem like a very good idea, but if it weren’t for experimentation then no one would be creating new sounds. This four-piece band from Minneapolis is hard to quantify or compare to anything other than themselves, so why not give them a listen and decide for yourself. If you have another moment to spare, check out their tumblr to see some of their old flyers (which are tackily hilarious) and some of their other images from the road.
This show goes down Tuesday, January 22 at the Shadow Lounge in East Liberty. The show is all ages and starts at 7. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.
