Jenny Owen Youngs at Brillobox
Jersey-based singer/songwriter Jenny Owen Youngs, best known for her single “Fuck Was I”, which aired on the second season premiere of the Showtime hit Weeds, is playing this Saturday at the Brillobox. While this genre of solo female performers is a departure from Brillo’s usual Saturday night programming, don’t let that prevent you from attending. She has drawn comparisons to the likes of Lisa Loeb and Avril Lavigne, but believes that couldn’t be further off base from what resonates with her as an artist. Her touring repertoire, which includes the likes of Aimee Mann, Vienna Teng, Regina Spektor and Motion City Soundtrack, should give you a more accurate picture of her persona, as fans of those musicians are likely to fall in love with Jenny Owen Youngs. It was also recently announced that Jenny will rejoin the 6th edition of The Revival Tour, where she will perform alongside Chuck Ragan, Rocky Votolato, Dave Hause, Jenny o., and Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. If you want a chance to catch a full set, however, it is highly recommended you attend her show this Saturday while she’s the focus for the night.
While she might be new to you, she’s been around for quite a while, self-releasing her debut album, Batten the Hatches in 2005 and again in 2007 on the Canadian indie label Nettwerk following the success she attracted as a result of her Weeds appearance. Have a listen.
Her third studio album, An Unwavering Band of Light was released in February of last year. Download a free song from the album below.
