Father Ryan Arts Center
Everyone needs a little inspiration in their lives. For folks in McKees Rocks, their inspiration comes from Father Regis Ryan, who heads Focus on Renewal, a community center that has a mission to better the minds, bodies, and spirits of the community. Focus on Renewal (FOR) has brought many new facilities to the Sto-Rox area, such as a health center and library. However, our favorite addition to the area is the Father Ryan Arts Center that opened its doors to the community four years ago.
Ryan Arts offers opportunities for any member of the community to find their new talent with a variety of classes and performances happening each month. It has a powerful vision for McKees Rocks: It creates opportunities for the community and the individual to be inspired, empowered and enlightened through the arts.
The center offers classes in artistic genres such as dance, theater, music, visual arts, and more athletic expression like yoga and martial arts. What makes this place truly inspiring is that it is open to all community members no matter how old or young they may be. They host a showcase for all of the students at the end of each class term along with fun, engaging events throughout the year such as the Terrance Austin Show-Down, which is an open event for all community members to get on stage and show off their vocal talents. Be sure to check out their YouTube channel for videos of their student showcases and the classes they offer.
Next on the calendar for Father Ryan Arts Center is their project “100 Signs of Peace from the West”. Today is the last day to submit art that depicts your concept and experience with peace. If you happen to already have something that fits the bill, send your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: 100 Signs of Peace. While this project is already on the verge of completion, we have a feeling this center will have no shortage of inspiring projects in the future.
