30/30 Night Five Recap | Night Six Deets
I’m starting to feel as though my math is off. Somehow we’re already at night 6. The delusion is finally sinking in. Last night was low key, and just what we needed. I even missed my shows! The only two shows I make a point to watch every week, and I missed ’em. See you in a few weeks, TV, this broad’s partying until further notice! Tonight we’ll be at none other than Mr. Smalls for the Uh Huh Her show. The name makes me think of those old school Pepsi commercials – “You got the right one baby, uh huh.” I’m discovering they even had Uh Huh girls. Ah, the days when drinking pop wasn’t so damn controversial. As you can see, my childhood was full of too much TV and not enough love. Thanks, ma.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen Gene perform, though I know he’s been doing his thing on the reg at New Amsterdam for a while now. Every Monday he has some type of open mic or performance featuring his seriously talented, yet shamelessly silly ass. He framed last night as an Obama vs. Osama party – so the US of A was a prominent topic. Covers included his take of “Born in the U.S.A.” and other patriotically-themed songs. My personal faves were the “Cheers” theme song, the Miami Vice-sounding stint which I believe came entirely from his keyboard, and the Super Mario 2 theme. Not sure if he was drunk, feeling forgetful or not being serious, but I’m not sure if he knew the theme from Super Mario 2 was playing. And, for the record – Adventureland was the movie in question, not Zombieland or Twilight. Guess you had to be there.
See you on the other side party peoples!
